Once you have activated an account with us for Data Guardian Backup™, you download a small computer application to your computer, and follow the simple installation wizard, much like most applications. Your account information will be entered into the client, creating a link to your personal online storage area. Using the familiar interface, you only need to browse for the files you want backed up, and presto! The backup will complete, and those files you select are protected!
Your data is safely encrypted before ever leaving your computer.
Your security and privacy are very important concerns to have - the data you are protecting is kept private with the use of 256-bit AES encryption (the same strong encryption standard adopted by the US military) and is encrypted again with SSL encryption (used by banks and many other online services) while sending the data to your personal storage area. The data is encrypted using an 'encryption key' - for simplicity, you may choose to use the default key (your Data Guardian Backup™ password) or you can go 'super secure' and create a different key. This key is important - no one can decrypt that data without it!

Data Guardian Backup™ will monitor those protected files for updates - then makes a backup of those updated files, so the files in your personal storage area stay current and up-to-date. Data Guardian Backup™ can run on a schedule and perform backups while you sleep, or, by using CDP (Continuous Data Protection) small changes are synchronised around the clock. If for whatever reason, a backup cannot be performed - Data Guardian Backup™ will notify you with an email alert, so you can be sure your data is protected!

Once your original files have been corrupted or otherwise lost, you can quickly and easily restore your files from anywhere, using the Data Guardian Backup™ Online Portal. Having this ability means you can restore your files to wherever you are, even if you are vacation, 1000 miles away from your protected computer. Plus, since all major operating systems are supported by Data Guardian Backup™, you can restore your files to another OS (for example, PC to Mac.) Any supported OS with a web browser and the latest version of Java is enough - no client software installation is necessary to instantly recover your data!
